I use the highest quality materials in every aspect of my work to ensure the best possible product. I have always tried to do something unlike anyone else. It is hard to do that much different with plates as people have been making them for a while but doing my best here.Â
The work is meant to be nostalgic but contemporary, something like you would find in your mom’s fine china cabinet. While some of my work is aesthetically pleasing from the sheer design aspect, other pieces are a juxtaposition melancholy on ultra refined porcelain, and sometimes strictly just to do something different for the sheer fun of doing it.
What I really want for my art to do is find its place in the world and speak to people, maybe its just for the sake of beauty, perhaps to start a conversation, or just a good laugh. Life is too short to be serious all the time.Â
Custom Porcelain Ceramics
Master porcelain artist Devin Campbell creates contemporary Hawaiian porcelain in his studio on Oahu. His designs bring a modern twist on the classic colors, iconic symbols of Hawaii, and ever evolving into something else.Â
Devin has perfected his own technique of slip-cast porcelain. Each piece is made with highly refined clay and fired multiple times at extraordinary high temperatures. This makes the porcelain denser and more durable than traditional ceramics.
Devin’s elegant and unique plates, platters, bowls, ramekins and votives are sure to enhance any tablescape or decor.
Experience
Devin has been working with ceramics says he was fourteen. He found the medium to be very therapeutic while doing with some incredibly traumatic events of his childhood and adolescence. His mother’s cancer was hard for him. Devin continued to work with the material, studying Fine Arts at ASU, and eventually finishing his B.A. in Art Practices from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He has had work in nearly twenty galleries and winner of the George Ellis Award at the 2023 Annual Statewide Hawaii Craftsman Exhibit for his series Captivated Paradise. His work resides in homes all over the world.
