Captivated Paradise #5 “The Meth Fiend” (George Ellis Award Winner)

$1,500.00

The porcelain plate series is meant to cause a discussion of why drugs are a problem in our country. I could go on and on about the subject, but what do I know? I put drug addicts on plates after all.

I do not see turtles every day outside of my studio in Chinatown, Honolulu, but I do see drug addicts. I have even almost been stabbed multiple times. It has hard to see every day. No one has ever come to Hawaii and said, "this place is ugly," but pockets of Honolulu have ugly characteristics, which are common in all U.S. cities. The series is meant to cause a discussion of why drugs are a problem in our country. I could go on and on about the subject, but what do I know? I put drug addicts on plates after all. This platter showcases disparity of wealth as the gold around the lip with and fine porcelain with the guy blowing out a huge cloud of crystal meth smoke. Captivated Paradise #5 was the winner of the George Ellis Award at the Annual Statewide Hawaii Craftsman show. The platter is a discussion piece and should be used. If you are willing to spend thousands on a plate with someone smoking meth on it you are exactly who needs to have this conversation.
